With a new season comes a new routine. As the temperatures begin to drop our skin and hair can start to look dull and feel dry. This is because our skin adapts to the warm weather and the sudden cool winds that autumn brings tends to dry out the moisture in our skin. This just means we need to add that moisture back into our skin, and using the right products can help with that .
Being a blogger generally means sampling tons of new products and clothing, plus opening up more about yourself...the things you experience, viewpoints, likes, and dislikes...so here, I have oily skin, and I am prone to breakouts (my big secret ha). Those that truly know me, know I'm a clean cut guy. I cut my hair at least twice a week, and floss constantly, just to name a few of my crazy habits, OH and i just might have an addiction to buying cologne! When it comes to my face, unfortunately i didn't jump onto the beard wagon. It just wasn't my thing and from what i hear the stages of growing it go from ugly...to ummm ugly.
When it comes to cleaning my face i always try to use a face wash that contains salicylic acid, which helps unclog your pores such as Clinique for Men Oil Control. This can be drying to your skin and even though I have oily skin, one thing I learned is that I still need to moisturize. It just needs to be a lighter weight moisturizer that is meant for your skin type.
One thing about many guys, they hate shaving. The irritation is the main factor that can come with having sharp blades pressed against your skin. This is why it is important to have the right products when shaving. Your skin will definitely become dry and you may notice that you have more razor bumps than normal. In order to prevent this I always try to shave after I shower in a warm steamed room, use a 5 blade disposable razor or straight blade and change the blades regularly. The difference between a disposable razor and a straight blade, besides the convenience and my preference, is that a straight blade can be less irritating on your skin as you don't have 4 or 5 blades stripping away at your skin. It may take some time to get used to the difference and holding the straight blade but it's definitely worth the buy.
I had to opportunity to get my hands on The Art of Shaving Kit. At first glance it gave me the feel of how my Old man used to shave and still does. Using the badger shaving brush to lather up had me wanting to play some Stevie wonder and just sway back and forth. It has that old school feel. Here are a Few things that come with the Kit:
- Pre Shave Oil
- Shaving Cream
- Badger Shaving Brush
- After Shave Bald
Last but not least. after I finish shaving as i said before make sure you moisturize, find what best suited for your skin type and apply. Right now I'm using the After shave balm from Art of Shaving. It is definitely working for me and this oily skin of mine. As you can see scent to me is just as equally important (picture above). Fellas trust me, the saying " You get what you pay for" is right on target when it comes to cologne, leave the cheap watered down stuff alone. It will save you from that frown when walking past that special lady of yours. Heres my Top 5 currently on my shelf:
- Artisan By John Varvatos
- Dolce & Gabbana The One
- Yves Saint Laurent 'La Nuit De I'Homme' Eau De Toilette
- Tom Ford Noir
- Armani Code Ultimate
